2014

Started the research about soil sensors

Amir Orangi began his PhD journey under the guidance of Prof. Guillermo Narsilio (two of the co-founders), focusing on reimagining an affordable soil moisture and density sensor.

2017

Commercialisation journey begins

Founders undertook the University of Melbourne's TRaM accelerator / incubator programs. Recieved first non-dilutive funding. Adrian Giecco joined the team.

2020

Patent filed - Covid hit

Funding from the City of Melbourne and Amazon Web Services secured. Patent application well underway to protect IP. Initial field trials with prototypes underway.

2022

Farmers to Founders and Telstra

AquaTerra is accepted in the F2F Harvest program. Pivot to grain market from the veggie market. EvokeAG attendance. Partner with Telstra to overhaul and simplify data communications.

2023

LaunchVIC and Australian Economic Accelerator funding for MVP

Funding from Agriculture Victoria and from the Australian Department of Education (via Melbourne University) secured to accelerate development of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP).

2025

EvokeAG Culinary Capital Dinner and Beanstalk Studio

One of only 10 start ups and scale ups selected for capital pitching dinner, and start up alley at Evoke AG (Brisbane). One of 24 teams into the Beanstalk Studio to help secure Seed investment.

AquaTerra combines new soil sensing hardware developed and manufactured in Australia, an IoT (Internet of Things) platform for power-efficient connectivity over long distances, and a user-friendly analytics interface providing farms with valuable data and actionable insights.

With AquaTerra’s technology, agronomists can serve more clients more accurately. Farmers can do more with less.

Recognition

The journey has been both enjoyable and challenging at times, but we take pride in the milestones we have achieved and the external recognition we received.

International patent

The founders are the inventors of an Australian-born patent that served as the foundation for the company's funding.

LaunchVic AgTech

We were recipients of one of the first LaunchVic AgTech grants in 2023.


F2F, TRaM and MIT

Alumni of the Farmers to Founders (F2F) Harvest Accelerator Program, the Translating Research at Melbourne (TRaM) incubator and accelerator programs and of the MIT start up camp.

Trials at Coolibah Herbs

Conduct initial trials at one of Australia's largest producers of organic and conventional salads and vegetables.


City of Melbourne 

A recipient of the 2019 City of Melbourne grant for small businesses.


CSIRO and early adopters

Our involvement in CSIRO's Impact7 resulted in securing two international early adopters in Argentina and China.


Expert guidance

Received advice from Agerpoint's CEO and President in the USA, WiseConn's co-founder and VP of Marketing and Sales in the USA, and Rockwell's Director of Software and Control in Singapore.
